Started in 1922 as a department of the Faculty of Oriental Learning and Theology and expanded into the College of Ayurveda in 1927, the Post-Graduate Institute of Indian Medicine in 1963, and finally the Faculty of Ayurveda in 1971. The Faculty of Ayurveda is one of the three faculties namely the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Ayurveda, and Faculty of Dental Sciences belonging to the Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. The Faculty of Ayurveda is one of the first leaders in the field of integrative medicine. The integrative model developed by the Faculty of Ayurveda of BHU is widely accepted and adopted by other institutions in India and abroad. The Faculty of Ayurveda has produced thousands of academicians, researchers, and healthcare providers shaping the healthcare landscape in India.
